— From darkness to light.
Spring has always inspired Nordic composers — and Swedish composer Kurt Atterberg is no exception. His popular suite, a lyrical and atmospheric double concerto for violin and viola, sets the tone for this April Sunday’s musical journey from darkness to light.

Bergen Chamber Orchestra, a project ensemble with strong roots in the city’s rich freelance and chamber music scene, is joined on this occasion by a top-tier team of soloists. Together they invite us further into Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations for tenor and strings — a work of great musical richness inspired by the poetic universe of Arthur Rimbaud.

The concert concludes with Czech composer Josef Suk’s Serenade for Strings, a piece brimming with springtime exuberance, Brahmsian warmth and melodic brilliance in the spirit of Dvořák — with whom Suk studied at the time the serenade was written. Welcome!

Erlend Tvinnereim – tenor
Alexander Kagan – violin
Ilze Klava – viola
Alexey Cherkasov – violin & musical director
