THE GREAT CHRISTMAS PLAY
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Christmas Play in Julebygda. For the 15th time, the heartwarming story of Mary and Joseph traveling across Jæren on “Christmas Eve itself” will be told.
The performances are outdoors in the evenings during December, where the weather adds to this unique experience. Watching theatre outside allows the interplay between the external environment and the story to come alive. The audience sits on a covered grandstand while actors perform on an open-air stage.
The venue is just 7 minutes’ drive from Sandnes city centre.
The play is written by Arnt Olav Klippenberg, who, together with Øystein Ellingsen and Ingvar Hovland, also created the music. Leading roles are played by Anh Vu, Ole Alexander Mæland, Tone Salomonsen, and Pål Magnor Kvammen, with nearly 40 amateur actors on stage. The director is Torfinn Nag.
After the performance, the audience is invited into the warmly heated Julebygda chapel, where the Christmas spirit is guaranteed.
The play is accompanied by a charming Christmas market selling local products, open one hour before and after the performances.
