In February 2006, a debut mini-album by an artist named Erlend Ropstad was released. Back then, he sounded like a singer-songwriter, writing somewhat melancholic songs in English – and many wondered: do we really need more of those?
Twenty years later, in 2026, we’re celebrating the anniversary of a remarkable Norwegian music career. Today, Ropstad stands out as an artist with a truly distinctive voice and expression. Very few, if any, manage to write rock songs in Norwegian with such quality – something both critics and Spellemann juries have recognized.
Over the years, Ropstad has built a loyal fanbase the old-fashioned way: by writing great songs that connect with people and by performing countless concerts. In the past two decades, he has played over a thousand shows, and this winter he’ll add around forty more – with a solo tour that takes him to nearly every county, from small towns to big cities.
