About the concert
Surrounded by Thaulow’s paintings, the audience is invited to experience music by, among others, the French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924). Fauré, born two years before Frits Thaulow, is regarded as one of the most influential French composers of the period between Romanticism and Modernism. He wrote piano music throughout his entire life, and this concert presents a selection of these works along with other French compositions.
Liv Glaser
Pianist Liv Glaser, who recently turned 90, has just released the album «Un peu français», featuring Gabriel Fauré’s works for piano. As a young musician, Glaser travelled to Paris to study with Ravel expert Vlado Perlemuter, and with this recording she reconnects with her early passion for French music. Since her debut recital in Oslo 65 years ago, Liv Glaser has been an internationally acclaimed pianist and an important ambassador for Norwegian music. She was the first Norwegian pianist to record all of Grieg’s Lyric Pieces. In 2018, she took part in NRK’s live broadcast Grieg Minute by Minute, a collaboration between NRK, Kode and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Liv Glaser received the King’s Medal of Merit in gold at the age of 30, and has since been awarded distinctions such as the Lindeman Prize and the Grieg Prize. In 2018 she was appointed Commander of the Order of St. Olav. She is also a highly respected educator and has been associated with the Norwegian Academy of Music since its founding in 1973, becoming a professor in 1994.
