Once again, the house organist Nils Henrik Asheim is joined by the Valen Vocal Ensemble for the organ’s Christmas concert. In a short time, the ensemble has established itself as the new elite group of singers in Rogaland. Together, they lead you on an atmospheric journey through beautiful Christmas folk tunes from various countries to sacred compositions, including by Fartein Valen himself – along the way evoking soundscapes that only the magical transition between the human voice and the organ can create.
The Valen Vocal Ensemble consists of professional singers from Tysvær in the north to Egersund in the south. Members have experience from, among others, the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir, Kilden Vocal Ensemble, Trondheim Vocal Ensemble, the Norwegian Opera Chorus, Nordic Voices and Trio Mediæval. The ensemble seeks to contribute to the region’s professional cultural life and has entered into a letter of intent with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra to collaborate in developing a strong regional vocal ensemble. Artistic director is Oddgeir Kjetilstad. In November 2022, the ensemble released its first recording, Jeg synger julekvad, recorded at Utstein Monastery.
