The Dream Syndicate performs Medicine Show in its entirety!

The Dream Syndicate is an American rock band that led Los Angeles’ Paisley Underground scene in the early 1980s.

Frontman Steve Wynn has been the band’s constant creative force – as songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist – and has remained a defining voice in alternative rock since their 1982 debut. On the upcoming tour, the band opens each show with a set of new material drawn from the four reunion albums released since 2017. After a short break, they perform Medicine Show in full – hailed by The Guardian as one of the 40 greatest rock albums of all time. The album has been unavailable in physical format for decades.

The debut album The Days of Wine and Roses marked the arrival of a band that stood out for its raw, guitar-driven sound, inspired by groups such as The Velvet Underground and Television. The songs combined intensity with melodic sensibility, and the record is now regarded as a genre classic. Later albums, including Medicine Show (1984) and Ghost Stories (1988), explored darker and more experimental directions.

After disbanding in 1989, Steve Wynn pursued a successful solo career and numerous collaborations. Interest in the band, however, never faded among critics and loyal fans alike. The Dream Syndicate reunited in 2012 and has since released several new albums. How Did I Find Myself Here? (2017) and The Universe Inside (2020) reveal a group still pushing boundaries — blending improvisation, jazz, and psychedelic influences while maintaining its distinctive sound.

For new listeners, The Dream Syndicate offers an encounter with an essential chapter in American alternative rock history — music combining atmosphere, energy, and depth. For longtime fans, the newer releases reaffirm that the story is far from over. Steve Wynn and his fellow musicians continue to create with purpose and integrity — more than forty years after it all began.
