Fjordane Friluftsråd supports outdoor recreation along the coast, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and take part in nature-based activities.

Outdoor Life for Everyone 💙

Litter in the ocean, along the shoreline, and in waterways is unfortunately a common sight. This pollution threatens both wildlife and people, and has a negative impact on outdoor recreation and tourism.

Fjordane Friluftsråd is an intermunicipal outdoor recreation council, with Solund, Hyllestad, Askvoll, Kinn, Bremanger, Stad, and Stryn as member municipalities. Their goal is to make outdoor life a natural part of everyday life for everyone.

Together with the member municipalities and the county, Fjordane Friluftsråd works to plan, implement, and coordinate initiatives to combat marine littering, while also striving to increase participation in outdoor activities.

Norway’s Coastline is Being Cleared of Plastic!

Vestland boasts a diverse, vast, and challenging landscape, with a fragmented coastline made up of 19,399 kilometres of fjords and 13,608 islands. The Vestland coast is also extremely exposed, with strong winds, fog, and rough seas, meaning that some locations are only accessible a few times a year.

Plastic pollution is a major issue along this coast. Warm westerly winds from the Gulf Stream carry both ocean currents and drifting plastic waste straight to Vestland’s shores.

One of Fjordane Friluftsråd’s key tasks is to run regional clean-up projects, helping to prevent, collect, and remove marine litter.

Join the Effort to Keep Norway Clean

Fjordane Friluftsråd coordinates beach clean-ups and preventive measures against marine litter in its member municipalities. This includes activities such as clean-up campaigns, school visits, and even the removal of old boat wrecks. Despite the great work being done, the council relies heavily on volunteers to make a real difference.

Organize a Clean-Up During Your Holiday

Volunteer clean-up actions are a highly effective way to remove waste from nature—both before and after it reaches the shoreline. The more often we clean, the more waste we can capture before it causes harm.

If you would like to organise your own clean-up, Fjordane Friluftsråd can provide useful tips, support with planning, and help you apply for funding to carry out your anti-littering efforts.

Join the Coastal Lottery

Are you visiting the area and want to help fight marine litter? Then you can take part in the Coastal Lottery. For every bag of rubbish you fill, you’ll receive a lottery ticket, giving you the chance to win great prizes in the annual Coastal Lottery draw.

How the Coastal Lottery works:

Pick up a clean-up bag at one of the designated collection points, or bring your own bag from home.

Fill the bag with marine litter and register your clean-up. Scan the QR code on the Coastal Lottery bag or follow the instructions to register and join the draw.

Drop off your bag at the specified location, or make sure the waste is disposed of correctly.

Give yourself a well-deserved high five 🙏🏻

You’ll automatically be entered into the annual national draw, held right after New Year.
