Historic log houses on a working farm near Åndalsnes
At Østigård, you can choose between two carefully restored log houses: Gamlehuset (the Old House) from 1810 and Prestegårdshuset (the Vicarage House) from 1850. You rent the house for yourself and your group, with your own kitchen and outdoor area.
Østigård 1810 is a family farm at Sogge in Rauma municipality, five kilometres from Åndalsnes. The farmyard is part of the historic cluster of farms at Sogge. Around the farm rise the mountains of the Trollstigen massif, with the peaks Bispen, Kongen and Dronningen (the Bishop, the King and the Queen).
A working farm with your hosts next door
Østigård is still a working farm. Synnøve Wenaas and Oddleif Østigård are the fifth generation to run it, growing grain and grass on the fields around the houses. They live on the farm themselves. After five generations here, they know the valley well, so ask them for hiking tips beyond the best-known trails.
The renovation has kept the timber walls and the character of the houses. At the same time, both houses have modern kitchens and bathrooms, a fireplace in the living room and beds from the local bed maker Wonderland. All bedrooms have blackout pleated blinds, which you will appreciate during the light summer nights.
Gamlehuset – log house from 1810 for up to eight guests
Gamlehuset is the older of the two houses and stands in the farmyard. It has four bedrooms and sleeps up to eight. The house suits couples who want plenty of space, families and smaller groups.
There are two modern bathrooms, one with a washing machine – handy after a wet hike or a long day on skis. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a long table that seats ten.
In the living room, you can light the fire between the timber walls and gather around the seating areas. There is cable TV and Wi-Fi, and you can stream music or radio through the built-in Yamaha MusicCast system.
Outside, you have a spacious terrace with a dining table and seating area, where you can have dinner with a view of the mountains.
Prestegårdshuset – log house from 1850 for up to ten guests
Prestegårdshuset is a log house from 1850 and also stands in the farmyard. It has five bedrooms and sleeps up to ten. The house suits extended families, groups of friends and anyone travelling together.
The bedrooms are laid out so that everyone gets some privacy. Three of them have their own bathroom. The other two are in a separate wing and share a bathroom, which works well for a family with children or two couples travelling together. In total, the house has four bathrooms.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with a long table that seats ten. In the living room, you will find seating areas, a fireplace, cable TV and Wi-Fi.
Outside, you have a sheltered outdoor area with a spacious terrace, a long table and seating, where your group can gather for dinner in the open air.
