How to get to Sandvasshytta:
You can reach Sandvasshytta from a number of places. You can walk from both Langfoss and Markhus. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can continue on from Sandvass to Simlebu and Blomstølen. The trail is well marked with red T-shaped signs, but do bring a map and compass, as well as suitable hiking gear for your visit to the cabin.
Travelling by car to Markhus:
Take the E134 to Markhus in Åkrafjorden; Åkrafjorden is about 1.5 hours from Haugesund. Drive up to Øvre Markhus to park; parking costs NOK 50 per day.
Arrival by Haukeliekspressen:
Alight at Åkrafjordtunet and walk towards Øvre Markhus, approx. 2.5 km. Then follow the medium-difficulty trail from the car park to Sandvasshytta.

- Self-catering cabin with food store
- 62 beds
- Open all year round; a visit is suitable in any season, provided the weather is fine
- Unlocked
- There is generally little mobile coverage in the Etnefjellene mountains, but there is a notice at the cabin indicating the nearest place with coverage
- The cabin has a rowing boat and life jackets available for guests’ use
- There are three dog cages in the main cabin, but dogs are not allowed in the living room or bedrooms
