Join a private guided hike on Bergen’s highest mountain and enjoy stunning panoramic views over the city, the sea, and the surrounding fjords. This is a local favorite-off the beaten track but close to town. Let us show you why the locals love it!
We begin with a short bus ride to the Ulriken Gondola and ride to 600 meters above sea level. From there, we explore stunning mountain trails with breathtaking views over Bergen and the fjord landscape. Your guide will lead you off the main tourist path and onto quieter local trails that showcase the true beauty of Mt. Ulriken. On a clear day, you’ll see all the way to the sea, the islands beyond Bergen, and deep into the surrounding mountains.
After the hike, you can walk down or take the gondola again. If you have time, enjoy a meal or drink at Skyskraperen Restaurant (booking ahead is recommended).
Tour Details:
Starting point: Outside Tourist Information in Bergen or upper gondola station.
Duration: 2–3 hours (adapted to the group’s pace)
Distance: 2 – 6 km
Elevation Gain: ~300 meters
Terrain: Uneven, rocky, and partly wet (boggy areas)
At the end of the hike on Mt. Ulriken, guests can choose to walk down or purchase a return ticket on-site.
Bus and gondola tickets not included. A one-way bus and gondola ticket (up) is required to complete the trip within the scheduled time.
How to get to the top of Mount Ulriken:
To get to the starting point at the top of Mount Ulriken you can either take the Ulriken Cable Car or you can walk up. The ticket for the cable car is not included.Read more and book tickets here. There is separate “gondola buses” directly from the centre of Bergen running from May to September.
You can also walk up the Sherpa-steps to the top. Either from the cable car or from Montana. The hike takes about 1 hour from the cable car to the top, depending on your level of fitness. Read more about the hike up Ulriken here.
