Walk from Lysefjorden Tourist Lodge and follow the paved road for 2.4 kilometres into the valley. Alternatively, drive to the turning point/lime kiln and continue the trail there.
Roundtrip description
From the end of the road in the innermost part of Lysebotn, a T-marked circular route goes into the valley along Lyseelva and Monakvitla. Walk the loop clockwise, cross the second bridge and continue across the grassy plain, Moen. You might encounter a flock of grazing wild sheep here. Cross the river on stepping stones and continue through a magical mossy green coniferous forest until you reach a distinctive suspension bridge called Stokken. Just beyond this bridge, the Setesdal Vesthei Ryfylkeheiane landscape protection area begins. However, the T-marked trail turns the other way along the river back under and partially through the hillside Vadlalia. The trail is easy to follow, but in some areas, you will find it useful to use your arms to climb over certain stones at the bottom of the slope.
From the turning point at the end of the road, the round trip takes 30-60 minutes, while it takes about 1 - 1.5 hours if you start from the pier/Lysefjorden Tourist Lodge. This is a nice hike with varied scenery and flat terrain suitable for the whole family. There are excellent opportunities for a break or a refreshing swim in the river.
Frisbee golf course in the same area
Lysebotn Discgolf is an 18-hole course for both beginners and advanced players. This course is located in the innermost part of Lysefjorden, surrounded by majestic mountains. The course covers both forehand, backhand, hyzer and anhyzer to raise the quality of the game. There is a free public parking lot at the entrance of the course. Here you can also find toilet facilities. If you bring lunch, you could enjoy your meal on one of the many benches in the forest among wildlife and fresh air. Please keep dogs on a leash, due to sheep in the terrain.
