Isfjorden is a popular winter area in the Romsdal valley, a short drive from Åndalsnes. Here you'll find both groomed cross-country trails and several well-known ski touring peaks in varied mountain terrain, with quick access to popular touring peaks and to the ski trails around Kavli, which suit both easy outings and more active sessions.

Cross-country skiing to Kavlisetra and Husnebbu

From Kavli there are usually groomed ski trails towards Kavlisetra and Husnebbu. The routes can be skied on cross-country or touring skis, and suit both a training session and a family-friendly day out.

The trails start at Hellerøra or at the shooting range in Isfjorden. Starting from the shooting range makes for a somewhat longer trip. Note that there's a toll on the road to Hellerøra.

The route to Husnebbu is there and back, and can be up to ten kilometres in total. The first few kilometres bring a steady climb before the terrain levels out towards the mountain farm. On the way back you get a longer descent.

The trails are groomed regularly by volunteers from Isfjorden IL throughout the season, and you may well come across ski events in the area.

  • Isfjordskarven
  • Galtåtinden
  • Loftskarstinden

The terrain in the area is spectacular, steep and prone to avalanches. These routes call for experience and sound judgement of snow and weather conditions. For ski touring, we recommend using a local, certified guide, particularly if you don't know the area well.
