The crystal-clear Haukalivatnet lake once served as proof that Norway had once been completely covered in ice. The work was carried out by Professor Jens Esmark, who demonstrated the existence of the Ice Age in Norway. On the drive, you will pass the world-famous Esmark Moraine, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both the moraine and the sauna are named after the professor.
The Jøkulheim sauna, ‘Heart of the Moraine’, is situated right by Haukalivatnet lake. The wood-fired sauna has its own jetty so you can easily cool off in the refreshing, clean water. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you’ll feel as though you’ve travelled 150 years back in time. Here you can relax and simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the scenic surroundings.
