You may explore the homestead or the beautiful scenery on your own, or you can book a guided tour. The open-air museum also has a mountain farm and an orchard with more than 30 different kinds of apple trees. Along the river, you’ll find buildings related to hydropower, offering insight into the importance of water as a power source.

Indoors you’ll find both permanent and rotating exhibitions. The museum depot contains more than 20,000 objects, of which a number are always on display. The main building also houses our gift shop and a small café.

Just west of Sandane you’ll also find Holvikejekta. This ship from 1881 is a reminder of the important trade networks between Nordfjord and Bergen. Holvikejekta was used to export firewood and timber to Bergen, bringing flour, sugar, clothing and other city goods back in return. The ship is 20 meters long and 8.6 meters wide, and was one of the largest of its kind. Of the many jekts that sailed along the coast, Holvikejekta is the only one that remains preserved in its original state.
