Normoria
The new cultural centre Normoria was completed in spring 2025 and is an important cultural meeting place not only for the city of Kristiansund, but for the entire region and for visitors from Norway and abroad. Normoria houses several stages that regularly host events such as concerts, opera festivals and more. In addition, Normoria is home to the city’s dance and ballet community, the public library, a café, the headquarters of Operaen i Kristiansund and the municipal school of music and arts.
Main exhibition
Nordmørsmusea is open all year and offers the permanent main exhibition “People in Motion”, which shows how the identity of the people of Nordmøre has been shaped over time through nature, culture and social development.
Here you can see prehistoric finds, objects from cultural history and more.
The museum can be visited independently, and the exhibition is arranged in a way that makes it easy to follow the different historical periods.
You can participate interactively via screens and digital technology to explore different eras, with activities for children and more.
Temporary exhibition
The museum also presents temporary exhibitions with creative and engaging content.
There has been a jewellery exhibition, and in the first half of 2026 the exhibition “Look, Grandma! We Are Dancing Together” will be on display. This is a travelling exhibition from the Norwegian Centre for Traditional Music and Dance. Here you can experience dance from across Nordmøre, both past and present – presented through film, archival material and live contributions from local dance groups.
