The western part of Bømlo has been known throughout history for its rich fisheries. The westernmost part of the North Sea Trail passes through the hamlets of Lykling, Uren, Tverrborg, Hellvik and Våge. There is a soapstone quarry at Lykling that was probably already in use during the Viking Era. Lykling is mentioned in written sources in 1590, when its owner was a member of the Alvsvåg family. Lyklingholmane and Uren belonged to Lykling. In 1668, the part of Uren up to Tverrborgvika bay became a separate hamlet. Gold was discovered there in 1862.
