You can start the walk at several places.
If you start at the quay, you can walk south along the stone beach. This is the perfect spot for a picnic and a swim. You can continue your walk around the river mouth and up a small path between Lyseelva and the campsite. At the campsite car park, the path meets the road and a large bridge takes you safely across the river. Then follow the marked trail down the river. This is a lovely little trail through bushes and scrub forest that takes you almost all the way to the fjord. Here you can enjoy the sight of the waterfall in all its glory. Follow the trail back. For a change, you can follow the trail to Tjodan Power Station and from there back over the bridge and back to the quay.
No matter where you start your hike, you will experience spectacular nature:
- From the bottom of Lysefjorden with its steep mountainsides.
- Along the rocky beach where the fjord meets the valley floor.
- Through scrub forest to a waterfall that changes character from day to day.
