The Salmon Studio at Sand is the first to be built in Norway. The studio is located in Sandsfossen, in the lower part of the popular salmon river Suldalslågen. The river is 22 km long and flows down the valley from Suldalsvatnet and flows into the Sandsfjord at Sand town centre.

Here you can go down the salmon ladder by the waterfall, where only a glass window separates you from the fish. This is a unique insight into the life cycle of the fish as they make their way up the river to spawn after several years out at sea.

In the Salmon Studio, you can also learn more about the turbulent history of the salmon and Suldalslågen, how major power developments have characterised life in the river and what challenges the salmon face today and in the future.

The Salmon Studio is open every day from June 15th until the end of August, and on weekends in September.

Suldalslågen river is a late salmon river, so the best chance of seeing salmon is from the end of July onwards.
