Svinvik Arboretum was founded by Halvor and Anne Svinvik in the 1940s and is beautifully located on the mountain slopes by Todalsfjorden. Here, you'll find an exotic nature garden with Asian rhododendrons, bamboo, coniferous trees from around the world, and traditional perennials. The garden is a living cultural heritage and an oasis for both plant enthusiasts and families on a stroll.
Rhododendrons and conifers
The highlight of the arboretum is its unique rhododendron collection, with over 375 different types that bloom in stunning colors from late May to June. Lovely forest paths among towering trees make the garden a popular attraction throughout the summer. The blooming changes daily, offering a new experience with every visit. The arboretum also houses an extensive collection of conifers, with more than 250 varieties, as well as an old orchard and a wide selection of ornamental shrubs. Explore the garden’s trails, enjoy the views over the fjord, and experience nature’s diversity.
Flower-decorated cakes and a coffee break with a view
In the museum café, you can enjoy homemade cakes decorated with edible flowers – a specialty worth the trip by itself. The café is also a great spot for a coffee break in idyllic surroundings, and no ticket is required to visit it.
