Join us for a tour of Salhus Tricotagefabrik (1859–1989) and learn about the history and importance of the textile industry in Norway. Take in the smells that still linger in the factory after many years of production.

We guide you through the different production processes, from carding and spinning, to winding, knitting and sewing. What does a knitting machine sound and look like? We demonstrate machines that were in use at the factory, which are now used to knit socks and scarves that you can buy in the museum shop.

Watch the film about the history of Salhus, where former workers describe life in the factory town, and see our changing exhibitions in the gallery.

In our cosy café you can enjoy homemade cakes and sandwiches with a view of Salhusfjorden. There is also a children’s corner with toys and drawing supplies for little ones. Access to the café and the shop is naturally free of charge during our opening hours.

Private events:

Salhus Tricotagefabrik dates back to 1859 and is the only listed industrial heritage site in Bergen municipality. We offer rental venues for both large and small events, including confirmations and weddings.

The venues usually available for rent are the museum café, Spoleloftet, Kveldheim, Skolehuset, and Clausen Møterom.

The café has large windows facing the sea, making the room bright and pleasant, especially in summer. There is also a terrace with tables and chairs overlooking the water. The café can accommodate around 100 dining guests, with tables, chairs, and tableware provided. Rental of the café is combined with catering from Et By Bjelland. A screening room with projector and screen is also available (max. 30 people in cinema setup). The café is available for hire outside the museum’s opening hours.

Kveldheim is our historic function room, with a capacity of up to 35 people. It is equipped with a fully modern industrial kitchen that you may use yourself, or you can order catering from our skilled chef.

In Skolehuset, you can enjoy a memorable and historic overnight stay in surroundings from 1878 and 1960. It offers sleeping space for 4 adults.

Clausen Møterom is perfect for small, intimate meetings, with a capacity of up to 10 people. Rental of this room can also be combined with lunch catering from our own café.

Venue hire can also be combined with a guided tour of Salhus Tricotagefabrik.
