Molde-Eikesdal

  • 96 km
  • 1 hour 30 min
  • 1 toll road

Travel from Molde via RV64 to Sølsnes, drive further to Horsgård and Ranvik to Eidsvåg. This is where Nesset Vicarage is located, the childhood home of the Norwegian writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. Follow RV660 towards Eresfjord. Down by the fjord at Bogge you can see 6000 years old petroglyphs. A stop in Eresfjord will give you the opportunity to shop for local handicrafts, follow the salmon in the river via a monitor and see an exhibition regarding Dovrefjell National Park. The road continues along lake Eikesdalsvatnet, through the largest hazel forest in the country. Eikesdalsvatnet is located just 26 meters above sea level, while the surrounding mountains tower 1800 meters straight up from the lake. Toll road to the Mardalen valley, where you can walk up to the Mardalsfossen waterfall (45 min). The waterfall cascades 297 meters down and is the world's 4th highest waterfall to drop unbroken (water is released by the hydroelectricity company 20.6-20.8).

Eikesdal-Aursjøen-Sunndal

  • 70 km
  • 1 hour 40 min
  • 1 toll road

The Aursjøveien Road goes up the Finnsetlia hillside, featuring several 180 degree hairpin bends, through dramatic nature that might take your breath away. 50 meters from the road midway up Finnsetlia, you will find remarkable potholes with possibilities for a refreshing bath. At the top of the hillside you can walk out to the cliff viewpoint Aurstupet. The road takes you towards the dam at lake Aursjøen (862 m.a.s.) and down through the Torbudalen and Litldalen valleys to Sunndalsøra. This is a trip full of contrasts, from lush Eikesdalen valley with steep mountains on each side, to highlands of open and magnificent mountain scenery. The road is a toll road which opens 1 June and stays open until the beginning of October. Particularly well suited for motorcycles, normal cars and SU Vs (not caravans).
