Few hikes offer as much variety and atmosphere as the trail to Vonhytta in Sula. Along the way, you’ll be rewarded not only with sweeping views over Breisundet, Ålesund and the Nordøyane islands, but also charming encounters with fairytale characters, historic summer farms, and a cosy mountain hut with an open kiosk on public holidays.
The trail begins at Vasset outdoor and sports park and climbs steadily into the landscape. A short ascent takes you to Gamlestølen, a peaceful rest stop surrounded by forest and traces of old farming culture. And the best part? This is just the beginning. The well-marked path continues with a gentle incline, leading you up to more than 500 metres above sea level – to Vonhytta, a beloved hiking destination for both kids and adults.
Highlights along the way
- Molværselva and the Three Billy Goats Gruff – a charming bridge with hand-carved figures sets the tone
- Gamlestølen – a flat open area with a touch of local history
- Home of the “Sula gnome” – a small glimpse of mountain magic
- Steinelva river and Reidarvarden viewpoint – refreshing water and beautiful views
- Blåfjell (344 m) – a short detour with impressive panoramas
