About Geitungen Lighthouse
Geitungen Lighthouse, lit for the first time in 1924, is one of Norway's youngest lighthouses. It was designed by Jørgen H. Meinich, who was also responsible for the Makkaur lighthouse in Finnmark, known for its curved roof and detailed design. The lighthouse replaced the old lighthouse at Skudenes from 1799 and was built to secure the entrance to the Boknafjord, with a new fog signal being an important factor in its location. The Geitungen lighthouse was automated and vacated in 1994 and is now listed as a cultural monument.
