Villages and places

Årdal

Årdal is called the "Gateway to Jotunheimen" from the west and is home to the lush Utladalen valley with Vettisfossen waterfall and hiking adventures second to none.

Hiking in the area is popular, so is driving the long, Tindevegen from Årdal to Turtagrø and Jotunheimen (closed in winter) or kayaking on the lake or fjord.

Interestingly Årdal is split into two villages, Årdalstangen (the lower part) and Øvre Årdal (the upper part) with a total of around 5500 people. You also find two of everything, from schools to outdoor swimming pools.
