Birdbox Reksta is idyllically located on the island of Reksta outside of Florø. Here you become one with nature and can watch both sunrise and sunset from your bed. You can experience the roughness of the coast with wind and weather and the most beautiful colors reflected in the sea when the sky and sea merge. You can view all this from a cozy and warm Birdbox.
Here you can also explore the island's varied wildlife, including wild sheep, deer, and sea eagles. There are several great hiking trails right outside the door –and if you want to take a salty bath, you can find a beautiful location on the island.
Where is Birdbox Reksta?
Birdbox Reksta is located on the Island Reksta just outside of the city of Florø.
How to travel here
To get to Reksta you must take a scheduled ferry from Florø to Rognaldsvåg which takes approx. half hour. The boat trip is a great experience where you will see the beautiful coastal landscape with islands and reefs with the great ocean as a mighty neighbor.
By ferry and car
If you are going to take a car to Reksta, you must book a place before departure with kyss.no car booking, route west: Florø –Rognaldsvåg with return Rognaldsvåg – Florø.
On arrival at Reksta drive left after the quay towards Indre Reksta to Reksta school, approximately 5 km. You can park there on the school grounds. From the school up to the Birdbox is approximately 8 minutes to walk. Bring good clothes and shoes.
By ferry without a car
If you come without a car, the host can collect and bring you free of charge from/to Rognaldsvågen quay.
Walking from Rognaldsvåg to Birdbox Reksta is a great trip on a marked path of about 3 km and it will take approximately 40 minutes. It is also easy to cycle on the island and the trip is approx. 5 km and takes around 25 minutes. The host can pick up and bring luggage.
With private boat
If you want to come with your private boat, we will arrange this when booking and you can moor at our private dock.
Facilities
The hosts of Birdbox Reksta welcome all guests, either by picking them up in Rognaldsvågen or by meeting them at Reksta School. The hosts introduce the island, the history of the Birdbox, hiking opportunities on the island, and give guests a tour of Reksta School, which is more than 100 years old. At the school, guests will also find a small farm shop offering local products from Reksta, such as wild sheep sausage, sheepskins, honey, wooden kitchen utensils and more.
Guests also have the opportunity to prepare hot meals in the kitchen at Reksta School and enjoy them in the authentic old classroom. For guests staying several nights in the Birdbox, the possibility to cook at Reksta School and to use the sanitary facilities is included in the price.
Inside the Birdbox, guests will find everything they need for a comfortable overnight stay. There is a kettle, tea and coffee, a refrigerator, underfloor heating, a panel heater and air conditioning to ensure a cosy atmosphere. Next to the Birdbox there is an incineration toilet which is easy to use.
Toilet and shower
Near the Birdbox you will find Reksta School, where guests can use the sanitary building with a regular toilet and shower. The hosts provide towels, shampoo, a hairdryer and more.
Food and drinks
In the Birdbox, guests will find five bottles of spring water from Reksta, as well as local tasting samples. Guests should bring any additional food and drinks themselves.
Grocery store
The local grocery store, Rognaldsvågen Group, is located near the quay where the ferry arrives, and has the following opening hours:
Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 16:30
Saturday: 10:00 – 15:00
Sunday: Closed
The shop will partly operate as a self-service store in the future. More information can be found on the shop door.
