Skåpet consists of seven cabins – one main cabin and six smaller cabins scattered around the grounds. The cabins are modern and designed by Estonian firm Koko Architecture + Design. Each of the small cabins sleeps five and features floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows that let in plenty of natural light and offer views of the small lake Soddatjørn. Here, you can truly find peace and quiet!

From the car park in Vinddalen, it’s about a 1.5-hour walk to the cabin. The walk takes you through varied terrain, taking you through woodland, across marshes and over rocky ground. Skåpet is easily accessible and a lovely spot for families with children or anyone looking for a weekend getaway.

Hiking and activities

Skåpet forms part of the spectacular ‘Around Lysefjorden’ route and is either the first or last stop on the hike. From here, you can follow the signposted trail to Flørli Tourist Station.

The area around Skåpet also offers wonderful nature experiences! Soddatjørn is an excellent spot for swimming. Set off on a summit hike to Skåpnuten (953 metres above sea level) or explore the Tyrejuvknollene hills. There’s also a splendid vantage point where you can see all the way to Lysebotn, about 1.5 km north of the cabin.

After a day out in the countryside, you can enjoy both the sauna and the outdoor shower! At Skåpet, there’s a wood-fired sauna, which also boasts panoramic views of Soddatjørn. You’ll find the outdoor shower just outside the sauna.

Food and accommodation

The cupboard is self-service, and in the main cabin you’ll find a food store with a selection of simple food items for sale. There’s also a kitchen here with everything you need to cook, equipped with kitchen utensils and crockery. There are duvets and pillows in the cabins, but you’ll need to bring your own bed linen or sleeping bag liner.

The cabin is powered by solar energy, so you can switch on the lights and charge your mobile, but in winter, when there is less sunlight, it’s a good idea to bring a head torch and a power bank. There is also gas for cooking, firewood for the stove and candles. All cabins have a wood-burning stove.

The small cabins must be booked in advance, and you must book the entire cabin as a single unit – it is not possible to book by the bed.
