Draumkvedet, the best-known medieval ballad in Norway, has long held a special place in the mid-winter darkness and continues to captivate new listeners. In Førde Church, you will hear Berit Opheim’s interpretation of this remarkable work – an interpretation she has shaped over an entire artistic life. She brings to life the story of Olav Åsteson, the man who falls asleep on Christmas Eve and wakes thirteen days later with powerful and mysterious visions.

Opheim is joined by three of her closest musical colleagues:
Karl Seglem (goat-horn, electronics), Nils Økland (Hardanger fiddle), and Sigbjørn Apeland (harmonium).
Together, they create a soundscape where folk music, improvisation, and deep knowledge of tradition meet – giving Draumkvedet new colour and resonance.

This concert offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the most distinctive works in Norwegian cultural heritage, performed by four of the country’s most respected and imaginative musicians.
