The First World War is considered one of the most extraordinary periods in Norwegian history, especially for Haugalandet and Haugesund. While the great powers fought a devastating war in Europe, Norway took on the role of freight forwarder. During this period, the city experienced unprecedented growth, with the resources of the sea suddenly becoming enormously valuable and fortunes being made in a short space of time.
Lecturer Tor Inge Vormedal
Tor Inge Vormedal, born in 1961, has a Master's degree from the University of Bergen and has many years of experience as a business journalist for Haugesunds Avis, Kapital and TV Haugaland, among others. Since his book debut in 2001, he has written 46 books. The series on the history of Haugaland consists of nine volumes that describe the region's development decade by decade through text and images.
