For 20 years, Frank “Tønes” Tønnesen and Ingvar Hovland have been presenting Christmas shows. Together, they explore the true challenges of the holiday season: where to be on Christmas Eve, who gives gifts to whom, what counts as an acceptable Christmas tree, and is it really okay to decorate it in November? The answer to the last question is, of course, a resounding choir of angels saying no. The rest is knowledge Tønes and Hovland have gathered over the years, now woven into a new concert performance, with help from Sigfrida and Johanna.
“I år gjør me det heilt enkelt” (“This Year We Keep It Simple”) is Christmas songs for those who feel the season shouldn’t be all about singing and concerts. It touches on gift-giving, cold floors, and whether the celebration is at Aunt Ingeborg’s or Aunt Gerd’s, while reminding us that even the brightest star brings hope.
Ingvar Hovland, often called Egersund’s national poet, has written lyrics for numerous Norwegian artists and bands. Frank Tønnesen has a unique gift for observing and sharing everyday life with a mix of subtle humor and quiet seriousness – many simply call him Tønes.
