A small break and a beautiful nature experience. In Sunnhordland, you can visit 8 unique day-trip cabins. Each hike is a one-of-a-kind adventure! NB! Overnight stays in the cabins are not allowed – they are intended for daytime use only.

“Tveitaslottet”

The day-trip cabin “Tveitaslottet” is located in Fitjar.

The trail to the cabin starts at Dalshaugane, situated on the east side of County Road 545, between Årbø and Tveit. There is ample parking available here.

The hike follows a tractor road through a forested area, with a short uphill stretch in the last hundred meters. From the cabin, visitors can enjoy sweeping views over Fitjar and all the way out to the sea. This spot is perfect for taking in beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The hike takes around 30 minutes.

"Utsletteslottet"

The day-trip cabin on Stord, named Utsletteslottet, is located on Utslettefjellet at an elevation of 252 meters.

The trail to Utsletteslottet begins at the artificial turf fields by the Nysæter sports field. To reach the sports field, take the exit from the E39 at Heiane onto Sagsvågsvegen, drive approximately 3.3 km, and then continue onto Fitjarvegen. After 500 meters, follow the sign on the right directing you to the day-trip cabin.

The trail up to the cabin is fairly steep, with an elevation gain of 200 meters over about 1.1 km, so be sure to take breaks and enjoy the view. After about 400 meters of climbing, keep to the right where the trail levels off and crosses a marshy area. Follow the trail for approximately 600 meters before taking a left to ascend a moderate slope in the last 300 meters up to the cabin. The hike takes about 45 minutes.

"Miklastofa"

The day-trip cabin on Tysnes, Miklastofa, is located in the scenic outdoor area near Kyrkjevatnet.

The cabin is situated in the Kyrkjevatnet recreation area in Uggdal, close to County Road 49. There are two marked parking areas for the cabin: one at Uggdalseidet and another at the end of Heningen. Visitors can also park at the town hall in Uggdal.

No matter which parking area you choose, it's only a short walk to the day-trip cabin. The path from Uggdalseidet is universally accessible, while the trail from Heningen offers a slightly more rugged route. Both trails are under 1 km and take about 10-15 minutes to walk.

Visitors can also enjoy a loop around Kyrkjevatnet, suitable for both walking and cycling.

"Adlesi"

The day-trip cabin on Austevoll, named Adlesi, is located at the top of Loddo. The name "Adlesi" reflects the cabin's purpose—to be a place for everyone.

If you arrive by ferry from Hufthamar, follow County Road 546 to the first roundabout, then turn right onto County Road 5144. Continue along this road until you see signs for parking at Åno. The trail to Adlesi starts from the parking area.

After about 1 km on the trail, the path divides into three possible routes to the cabin:

  • Red Route: Turn left at the junction and follow the gravel road for about 500 meters. From here, a steep forest path continues to the top. About 200 meters before reaching the peak of Loddo, take a left for a final 100-meter walk to the cabin.
  • Orange Route: Take a left at the junction and follow the gravel road for about 200 meters, then turn left up the hill. Follow the forest trail until you reach wooden stairs leading to the summit. About 150 meters before the top, turn right onto the red route, where the day-trip cabin is on the right side of the trail.
  • White Route: Take a right at the junction and follow the white trail to the top of Loddo. From the summit, follow the red route down about 200 meters, then turn right where the cabin is located.

Each route has an estimated walking time of about 30 minutes.

"Leiteshaugen" - Etne

The day-trip cabin in Etne is located on Leiteshaugen in the Rus mountain area. On some maps, Leiteshaugen may be listed as "Litle Urdahaugen," though locals simply call it Leiteshaugen.

To reach the trailhead, drive 1.5 km east on the E134 from Etne center, then turn right just before the bridge. Follow the road to Fossa, then turn right onto a private mountain road, Rusvegen. After about 4 km, you'll reach a parking area; remember to pay the 40 NOK parking fee via Vipps. From here, a marked trail leads to the cabin.

The trail is a gravel road almost all the way up, except for the last 150 meters. The hike is approximately 1.5 km and takes around 20 minutes.

Plans are underway to improve accessibility for universal use.
