What does sustainability mean to us?

Sustainability in FjordKysten and Sunnfjord is about more than just environmental conservation. It’s about creating thriving local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and ensuring that tourism has positive ripple effects. That’s why we work based on three key principles:

  • Environmental Responsibility: We protect nature through sound management practices, reduce plastic and waste, and encourage responsible travel.
  • Local Communities: We support local value creation, promote local food culture, and involve residents in tourism development.

Sustainability in Practice

The Sustainable Destination Label

FjordKysten and Sunnfjord are part of the national Sustainable Destination certification program. The label does not mean that the destinations are 100% sustainable, but that they are systematically working on sustainable destination development. Improvements must be documented every three years. The program has achieved "GSTC-recognized status," awarded by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Environmental Certification

Visit FjordKysten and Sunnfjord are environmentally certified and implement measures that inform, support, and encourage more businesses to become environmentally certified.

Products that have at least one official environmental certification are marked with a Leaf. The Leaf helps you find environmentally certified activities and accommodations during your travels.
