Magnificent scenery with mountains and deep fjords. From the furthest-flung islands to sheltered villages. From steep viewpoints to green valleys. You’re never far from fjords and mountains anywhere in the region.

Visit some of the spectacular waterfalls in Ryfylke. Stop on Norwegian Scenic Route Ryfylke and experience the Svandalsfossen waterfall at close range or see the majestic Ryganfossen waterfall, which you can walk to from Nes in Årdal. Or walk up Onglanuten in Suldal and stop for a refreshing shower at Perskårfossen waterfall. You will pass Øyafossen waterfall near the path on the walk from Vormedalen to Trodla Tysdal.

Hiking

Ryfylke offers a diverse range of waymarked trails from simple day trips suitable for families to summit trips and hikes between cabins in the mountains and along the coast.

Norwegian Scenic Route Ryfylke

Norwegian Scenic Route Ryfylke is a journey through some of the most beautiful scenery in Norway. Take your time and stop often, because remember: diversions often make for the most memorable travel experiences.

Stop at the new picnic area at Høllesli and soak up the view across the Lysefjord. Stop at Sand in Suldal and explore the area around the Salmon Studio and Høsebrua bridge.

Drive the Scenic Route across the Saudafjellet mountains and stop to explore the Allmannajuvet zinc mines and soak up the fantastic scenery of the mountains.

Unique places

You’ll find many unique places and accommodation options close to nature in Ryfylke.

How about a visit to the exotic garden Flor & Fjære, which includes a boat trip, guided tour and dinner? Head for the mountains in summer and visit the staffed Stavanger Trekking Association cabin Stranddalen, or head for Flørli in the Lysefjord and stay beside the fjord. You can also spend the night in one of The Bolder cabins, each built on a single column high above the Lysefjord.
