Årskog museum is an old, typical Western Norwegian farm left to the municipality of Fitjar by the brothers Lars and Olai Årskog in 1980. Up to this date, the farm had been in the ownership of the same family for about four centuries. Situated close to the sea, the farm comprises cultivated landscape containing stone piles from the clearing of the area, stone walls, farm yards and boat-houses, representing the hybrid of agriculture and fishing that the people of coastal Norway have traditionally relied on.
