Bergen is a special place – The city's fascinating stories and personalities are best revealed by exploring the past and the present on a guided tour through Bergen's millennial history.

On this guided walk you will learn more about why Bergen was founded exactly here, and how it won and lost its crown as Northern Europe's largest city. Uncover the traces of how the city was reborn  from its ashes time and time again.

The tour takes place within the city's old core and covers architectural gems and some of Bergen's most notable sons and daughters. From medieval architectural gems such as Håkon's Hall and St. Mary's Church to the heritage buildings at Bryggen; from the old fish market to the new one and from the former city halls to the heart of the city at Byparken. Along the way you will learn more about some of Bergen's most famous residents, from Olav Kyrre and Eirik Rosenkrantz to Ole Bull and Edvard Grieg among many others, and understand their relevance and significant contributions to Bergen and to Norway's national identity.
