Folgefonna National Park was established in 2005 and is one of 42 National Parks in Norway. The Folgefonna glacier is the glacier furthest south in Norway, and the third largest. In the National Park and its surrounding areas there is a wide range of outdoor adventure activities available. You can join Folgefonni Glacier Team on guided snowshoe hikes, guided blue ice hikes, ice climbing or cross country skiing across the glacier (overnight stay on the glacier) from May . The summer ski centre FONNA Glacier Ski Resort offers alpine skiing, snowboard and cross country skiing . Hardanger Breføring offers guided glacier tours at the Buer glacier, a part of the Folgefonna glacier stretching towards lake Sandvinsvatnet in Odda The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has 4 mountain cabins in the National Park; Fonnabu, Holmaskjer, Breidablikk and Sauarbrehytta.
