Description of walk

The path starts approx. 50 m before the Gjøvåg/Kaldafoss crossroads. The first part of the path is on an old road from the late 19th century. Where the old road crosses a small river, there is an old bridge made entirely from large stone slabs.

Just after the bridge, the path veers right and ascends fairly steeply to Åsen at approx. 200 metres. You will already have great views to the west and north and of almost the whole of Gjøvåg. After Åsen, the path flattens out a bit and at the top is Gjøvågsvarden cairn (306 metres). There is a box with a visitors' book at the cairn.

On clear days, you can see all the way to the sea and in all directions, including to
the island of Sotra, all the mountains surrounding Bergen, towards the Kvamskogen plateau, the Folgefonna glacier, Tysnessåta hill, Stord/Fitjarfjella and almost all of Austevoll and all its islands.

From Gjøvågsvarden, you can continue to Dalstuva and take the path down to Åse from there.
