The Folgefonni Glacier Team takes you on an impressive crossing of the Folgefonna Glacier, from Sundal in Mauranger to Tokheim in Odda. This route has attracted international tourists to Hardanger since the mid-19th century. At that time, however, the glacier was crossed by horse and sledge.

Today the hike takes a total of two days and includes an overnight stay in the DNT cabin Fonnabu. The tour starts in Sundal, where you follow the beautiful Bondhus Valley. Then, from lake Bondusvatnet, you follow the marked hiking path to Fonnabu, where you will be served a well-deserved dinner and stay overnight. The total hiking duration on the first day is around 6-8 hours.

On day two, the experienced glacier guide takes you across the glacier plateau to the DNT cabin Holmaskjer. During the hike over the plateau, you will get the feeling that you are on the "roof of Norway", surrounded by a spectacular panoramic view. At Holmaskjer, you will have your lunch break and continue down towards Odda afterwards.

The glacier crossing itself takes about 3 hours and is the easiest part of the entire hike. From Holmaskjer down to Tokheim in Odda, it takes about 4 hours. In Odda, you can take a bus or a taxi back to Sundal (approx. 20 minutes, through the Folgefonna tunnel).

This glacier crossing tour is for experienced hikers. On the first day, you have to climb an ascent of 1400 meters. The descent the next day is 1600 meters. The hike can only be done when the weather conditions allow it, and the exact route is adapted in each case. All glacier equipment, accommodation, and dinner are included in the price. Warm, wind- and waterproof clothing, sturdy hiking boots, lunch, touring snacks, and drinks for two days, you bring with you. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also important on the glacier!

An alternative is to hike to Fonnabu without a guide and only take part in the guided glacier crossing from there. This variant costs NOK 990 per person.
