Step onto the blue ice in Jostedalsbreen National Park
Feel the thrill of walking on a glacier – safely guided on the mighty Haugabreen. This is your chance to experience the magic of the blue ice up close.
Haugabreen lies in Stardalen, Jølster – an easily accessible glacier arm in Jostedalsbreen National Park. The hike starts at the parking area in Haugadalen, and from the very first step you are surrounded by beautiful nature and fascinating stories. Along the way, your guide will share insights about how the glacier has shaped the landscape and the local history connected to the ice.
At the glacier front you put on crampons, helmet, and harness – all equipment is included – and are roped together before stepping onto the ice. Once on the glacier, you explore sparkling ice crystals, crevasses, and deep-blue ice formations. The pace and route are always adapted to the group, ensuring a safe and memorable adventure for everyone.
The hike takes about six hours in total, and no prior experience is needed. The only thing you should bring is sturdy hiking boots with ankle support.
