Langfoss Up is the hike for those who want to experience one of the most famous waterfalls in Fjord Norway from within the landscape itself. The trail takes you close to the waterfall while Åkrafjord lies far below and steep mountains rise around the path.
The hike is located in Etne municipality in Sunnhordland, along the E134 highway between Haugesund and Odda. The starting point is at the parking area by Langfoss, around 5 minutes by car from Fjæra and about 1.5 hours from Haugesund.
How to get there
Langfoss is located directly beside the E134 along Åkrafjord, and the waterfall is clearly visible from the road. There is parking at the rest area below the waterfall, where the hike begins.
From the parking area, follow the marked trail uphill alongside the waterfall towards Varahaugen and Langfosstølen. The trail is well marked, but several sections are steep.
Trail description
The hike follows the old mountain farm path beside the waterfall through forest and rocky terrain. Along the way, you get close to the rushing water, and several viewpoints open up towards Åkrafjord and the surrounding mountain landscape.
As you climb higher, the trail becomes steeper, but the views grow wider. At Varahaugen, around 640 metres above sea level, you are rewarded with panoramic views of the fjord, mountains and the landscape surrounding Langfoss.

A hike close to the forces of nature
Langfoss Up is a hike where you truly feel the contrasts of Fjord Norway. The sound of the waterfall follows you along the trail while the fjord lies calm beneath the steep mountainsides.
Be careful on wet and slippery sections, wear proper hiking shoes and stay on the marked trail. The nature around the waterfall is vulnerable, so please bring all waste with you when leaving.
