Hafstadfjellet rises 706 metres above sea level and is one of the most iconic landmarks in Førde. From the top, you are rewarded with a breathtaking view over the town, the fjord, and the surrounding mountains – a panorama well worth the effort.
The hike starts in the heart of Førde, at the intersection of Fjellvegen (E39) and Langebruvegen, right next to the town hall. From here, Hafstadkleiva – the popular exercise and hiking trail – takes you straight up the steep slope towards the summit.
The beginning is intense, with around 180 sturdy steps to get your pulse going. The trail then continues as a wide but steep gravel road that zigzags up the mountainside. Once above the treeline, a little over halfway, the terrain becomes gentler and the views start to open up.
Just before reaching the top, the route connects with the service road from Pinndalen, only 300 metres from the summit. The entire trail is illuminated, making it possible to hike both early in the morning and late in the evening, all year round. Please note: The trail is not maintained during the winter season, so take precautions if you plan to go when there is snow.
