Old farm estate near the ferry quay at Hufthamar. The oldest cottage dates back to the seventeenth century.

Open by appointment.

At Hufthamartunet, you will find an "årestove" (a traditional Norwegian room with a central fireplace). An "årestove" is a log-built house featuring a central hearth ("åre"), where an open fire provides both light and heat. The smoke freely rises into the room and escapes through the "ljore," an opening in the roof. The house had no windows, so daylight came down through the "ljore" and spread throughout the room. In ancient times, the "årestove" was the only heated building on the farm; here they slept, cooked their food, and lived.

Open for guided tours by appointment.

Summer Exhibition 2024

The photo exhibition "Austevoll through the Eye of the Needle and Bird Focus" runs throughout the summer. This year, local photographers Anita Nordeide and Håvard Melvær are the exhibitors. Anita uses the walls in "Nystova" for her photos of local birds. Capturing birds that fly off as soon as they settle is an art. Håvard employs the old "pinhole photography" method to capture buildings and nature in Austevoll without editing and modern digital solutions.

The summer exhibition opens Saturday, May 25 – at 1:00 PM

Throughout the summer, there will be various activities. These will be announced on the Austevoll municipality's website and on Facebook. Additionally, check Hufthamartunet's own Facebook page.
