Discover a spectacular corner of coastal history

On the outskirts of Egersund harbour, on the island of Lindøya just inside the fjord entrance, lies Lindøy Batteri – a fortress that takes you back in time, while offering an extraordinary nature experience.

The history behind

The fortress was built in historical times, in the first half of the 17th century, as one of many defence stations along the Norwegian coast. Although the exact date of the construction of Lindøy Batteri is not documented, there are reports that the site was equipped with cannons and ramparts to strengthen its defences against pirates and sea raiders. The battery was not usually fully manned at all times, but was activated in times of crisis.

What you will find here

From its majestic location at the entrance to Egersund harbour, you have a panoramic view of both the southern and northern sounds – a view that once guarded the entrance to the harbour and today offers peace and inspiration.

Explore the restored old cannons up close and meet ‘Linda’ – the beautiful aluminium figure created by artist Hanny T. Konttinen.

Whether you come for the history, the art or the magnificent nature, Lindøy Battery offers a wonderful experience – an encounter between the coastal cultural heritage and beautiful landscapes.
