Mosvatnet lake and Vålandsskogen forest are the most popular areas for recreation in Stavanger. The 3 kilometres-walk around Mosvatnet lake is a feast for eyes and ears as you pass through beautiful scenery that is home to a thriving bird life! No less than 140 bird species have been registered here and around 50 of these nest in the area. If you wish to extend your walk, you can continue into Vålandsskogen forest via footbrigdes over the motorway. Peering above the forest is the Vålandstårnet tower, with an open cafe on Sundays from 11am - 3pm. The tower offers a splendid view of Stavanger. Birdlife With 140 different bird species registered, it's a haven for bird watchers along the lake. In winter, there is a large number of ducks, such as Goldeneye ducks and mallards and occasionally Lappish ducks. Along the water's edge, well hidden in the overhanging scrubland between Mosvangen camping and Stavanger Art Museum, several rare bird species find themselves at ease. Near the art museum, there is a sculpture park.
