The car park in Solheimsdalen is one of the most popular
starting points for exploring the mountains of Tysnes, summer
and winter alike. The walks go through birch woods up to
above the tree line, where heather and juniper dominate
and where you get the feeling of being on a high mountain
plateau.

At 753 metres, Tysnessåto is the highest summit in
Tysnes, with great views in all directions.
From Grovatnet lake, you can continue on towards Breistølen summer pasture farm.

Good advice

The path is wet in places, so wear appropriate footwear.

Lenght

20 km there and back, 3 hours' ascent.

Altitude difference

280 -753 metres.

Tour description

The walk starts with an easy climb on a tractor road for about 2 km, before turning left onto a path up Malkenesdalen valley, where it flattens out at about 550 metres taking you in towards Såtefjellet mountain and the foot of Tysnessåto. The final ascent to Såta is relatively steep. Cairn with a visitors' book. From here, you can also take the path down to Grovatnet lake and continue until you get to the forest road that takes you
back to Solheimsdalen.
