Between Ålesund and Geiranger – in the heart of the Sunnmøre Alps
Located between Ålesund and Geiranger, surrounded by majestic mountains, you’ll find Sølmongården – a family-run farm passed down through generations. Today, the farm has expanded beyond traditional agriculture to offer memorable farm tourism experiences.
At Sølmongården, you’ll meet a wide range of animals, including horses, goats, calves (in summer), llamas, mini pigs, donkeys, geese, ducks, peacocks, hens, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, chinchillas and parrots. Many of these animals can be petted or visited up close, while others can be admired from the fence.
Activities on the Farm
During open farm days, children’s horseback riding is arranged, giving young visitors – whether first-timers or budding riders – a chance to try sitting on a horse. There’s also a cosy outdoor play area for younger children, with swings, a slide and sandbox. On calm days, a bouncy castle is set up for even more fun.
Café and Farmhouse Charm
The old farmhouse on the property has been lovingly restored and now serves as a farm café. Originally moved to Sølmongården in the late 1800s, the house has retained much of its historical charm. Inside the café, you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a freshly made waffle, either indoors or outside on one of the picnic benches.
If you’re planning a day trip, you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch and enjoy it outdoors alongside the animals. On fine days, the fire pit is often lit, giving you the chance to grill your own food and enjoy it in great company.
