This rare stone is found both in Magma UNESCO Geopark here in southern Rogaland and on the moon, and gives the square a magical, shimmering appearance that changes character with the light throughout the day.

The square in Egersund is a place for both celebrations and everyday life

When the square in Egersund was renovated in 2023, the goal was to create more than just a new urban space. The result was a living heart for the town – a place for both celebrations and community, everyday life and experiences. Here you can stroll over moonstone, meet friends in the surrounding cafés, enjoy good food in the town's restaurants, and take part in cultural events throughout the year.

Organic and unique park design

With its unique circular and sinusoidal benches, designed by Sven-Erik Markhus Kaiser, it is a meeting between industry and art, combined with wood produced by Frode K. Tingbø, a true Egersund man. The result is organic shapes that look great, are comfortable to sit on, and make fantastic motifs in photographs.

A natural meeting place close to shops and experiences

Månetorget has become a natural meeting place for people of all ages. Children, young people and adults meet here for an ice cream, a cup of coffee, a chat or a break in the sun. The square works just as well during major events such as Julebyen Egersund (Egersund Christmas Town) as it does on a normal Tuesday morning.

Around the square, you will find a centre of shops, museums and experiences.

Many Egersund residents love the new square. Now you are invited to experience it for yourself – take a walk on the moonstone, right in the heart of Egersund.
