The Romsdal Museum was established in 1912 and portrays buildings and interesting interiors from the whole region. Here, you can explore modern exhibitions, a historic town street, a café, and a living museum – with parts of the museum open all year round. The museum is set in a pleasant park area and consists of three main elements: the rural building collection, the historic town street, and the main building, Krona, which houses exhibitions, a café, and a museum shop.
Krona – exhibitions all year round
Krona is the museum’s modern main building and is open throughout the year. Here you’ll find permanent and temporary exhibitions offering insight into both the history and present-day life of the Romsdal region. Krona also features a museum shop, a café, and a local history library. The building is home to a bunad workshop that is part of the ÉCONOMUSÉE network, where visitors can see the traditional Veøy bunad being made.
The town street – Molde in earlier times
The “Town Street” presents typical townhouses from Molde’s pre-war period. Strolling between the historic buildings gives you a tangible sense of the town’s past. The area is open for self-guided visits all year round and can be accessed without a museum ticket.
The rural collection – a living museum in summer
The rural collection is open during the summer season and offers a living museum experience with farmyards, livestock, traditional crafts, and activities. In summer, history is brought to life through people, work, and everyday life as it once was. During the rest of the year, the outdoor area is open as a park, where you can wander among the buildings and enjoy the atmosphere.
- The listed opening hours apply to the main building, Krona. For opening hours of the living museum, please visit the Romsdalsmuseet website.
