Vålandsskogen is a popular hiking area among locals, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a brisk morning walk. In the middle of the forest stands Vålandstårnet, a historic observation tower from 1895 with fantastic views of Stavanger, the fjords and all the way out to the North Sea. On clear days, you can see all the way to Jæren.
From the city centre, it takes around 15–20 minutes to walk to Vålandsskogen. Follow Wessels gate or St. Olavsgate up the hills from the city centre, and you will soon be surrounded by green paths and birdsong. A little urban adventure – just outside the reach of the city centre's hustle and bustle.
