Here you will find a paradise of forests, water and tranquillity – perfect for those who want to experience nature, history and recreation in one place.

The name Vannbassengan comes from the waterworks

The area takes its name from the old waterworks that once supplied Egersund with drinking water. Today, the clear lakes and stone-lined canals are a beautiful sight, surrounded by hilly coniferous forest and old paths. Here you can swim in idyllic waters, jog along the illuminated trail or take a stroll accompanied by birdsong.

Statsrådskogen, where ministers plant oak trees

In the middle of the area, you will find the forest Statsrådskogen – a unique memorial where every Norwegian minister who has visited Egersund has planted their own oak tree. This is a place where nature and national history come together, and you can walk among the oak trees planted by Norway's current and former leaders.

Swimming, hiking and skiing, depending on the season

Whether you want to take a refreshing dip, go for a short afternoon walk or set out on a longer circular route, Vannbassengan offers kilometres of marked trails and viewpoints. In winter, the area is transformed into a popular spot for skiing and cross-country skiing.

How to get to Vannbassengan

You can easily walk here from Egersund town centre, or follow the signs from road 44 towards Hauge in Dalane. There are good parking facilities, toilets and designated rest areas – everything you need for a pleasant day in nature.

Vannbassengan – a place for peace, recreation and nature experiences all year round.

Bring your swimwear and walking shoes – and let nature do the rest.
