Boretunet is a place where your heart rate slows; birdsong and the mooing of cows are the only sounds from the neighbours. For the owners, the most important thing is that you quickly feel at home, because that’s when you can truly relax and let your guard down. Enjoy life on a beachside gem, just outside Stavanger, yet right in the countryside.
These old wooden containers have had several lives. They began as a floating accommodation unit on a barge in Gandsfjorden in Sandnes, housing workers involved in the construction of an oil platform. Afterwards, the containers were converted into flats for Stavanger City Council as part of a recycling project. These were the very containers used by the architectural firm Helen & Hard themselves.
The focus was on creating a complex with well-defined zones, shelter from the wind and a sense of living alongside others in a neighbourhood. But privacy and comfort were also key elements, and, not least, reuse was a vital part of the whole project.
Surfing lessons, mountain walks and good friends
Its location right by Bore beach makes the place perfect for those who want to learn to surf. They offer surfing lessons all year round, have all the necessary equipment available, are within walking distance of the beach, and have outdoor showers with hot water and good indoor changing rooms. They are surfers themselves and understand what matters.
There are several surfing spots nearby, both for beginners and for those who can already surf.
Once you’re at Boretunet, it’s easy to go on a mountain hike to Preikestolen or Kjerag.
